I just talked to Scott Gravelle as a few of them were going up the Kicking Horse gondola for lunch...they have high winds today at altitude (30km/h+) and blowing from the wrong direction (South). They've called a 2:30 pilot meeting and may fly in the evening. Last year at the PG Nats, the called a 50km or so task at about 7:30PM that many made so there is still lots of time to get a task in.
This is what Scott mentioned about yesterday:
87km O&R task - to the split in the range and back to Nicholson. Launch opened at 2:30. It was a little tricky to stay up at first with the R&R-dynamic-duo (arch-rivals Ralph & Rob) bombing out early. Scott scratched LOW for 45min+ before he finally got up to take a start at 3:30 even-tho the starts were at 3:00 and 3:15. He caught up to everyone by the turnpoint and completed the course first in around 2 hours. Jon Orders was next in at 2h23 but had taken the first start. Fiona made her first goal finish yesterday as well...I'm betting goal finishes will start to flow for her now.
Ken Kinzie (from Ontario) was the only king-posted pilot to complete the course. Dave Bacon's GPS froze up 10km from the turnpoint so he turned around and got back to the goal field.
There are about 17 pilots there including: Ross Hunter, Jon Orders, Doug Keller, Ralph Herten, Jim Scoles, Rob Clarkson, Scott Gravelle, Fiona Katay, Christine Nidd, Dave Bacon, Ken Kinzie as well as a few first-time competitors from the Praries.
I wish I was there...have fun guys (and gals). It's very strange not being there...I'm missing my first nationals in about 10 years. It's also strange not to see Brett there...so there will also be a new Canadian champion after Brett's dynasty (of about 7 years)? Also, no Bernie. No Tyler. I don't think Jeff Remple is there...what's going on?
Scores will be posted here later today.

It was a great day! Several
Mon, 07/21/2008 - 21:36 — Brett YeatesIt was a great day! Several paragliders launched just before the task's launch window opened and flew 100km+ out and return flights, making it back to the LZ with the bulk of the field arriving in Goal.
Fingers crossed for good weather and great flying for the meet!
