US Nationals - Day 3

We arrived on launch to cool temps and stationary lenticulars to the NE.

I had a pessimistic attitude from the start. The wind was increasing, the cloud base was low, and things just didn't look good to me. I left the glider on the top of the truck.

Conditions to the W looked fantastic, but the wind was out of the SW at 20+

Everything to the NE looked terrible. At first the task committee was talking about going over the back, then decided to go up the range. With the lack of roads and the high winds along with low cloud base, I'm glad that they didn't take us over the range.

Setup area. There were a couple of false starts, as the winds continued to increase. Winds were acceptable for a few pilots to launch, but dangerous for all of the pilots I thought. We engaged in some hang waiting.

Here's some obsidian I shattered.

Finally at 3pm after two pilots launched, the meet organizers called the day. I never set up. I thought launch conditions were dangerous. Five or six pilots flew and some came back to the resort. They said there was strong lift and strong winds aloft. Tomorrow is another day.
